Last night was the 2nd of 4 things that I had to do along the Drum Major audition process. The first was an interview that was supposed to incorporate music with it (playing my instrument) but I didn’t get around to the music part just yet. So, tomorrow, I will be auditioning once more with the music portion of the audition, 3 out of 4 down. Last night though was the marching portion of the audition and I feel like I didn’t show Mr. M and the rest of the judges or the marchers what I really have in store. It’s something completely different from actually doing while on the field. Being in a band room and marching to a line of people as well as having to teach 6 marchers drill is 100% different than being on the field and going through the motions for real. So, I seemed to fumble a touch on some areas but for the most part I think I did pretty well. This is something that I will be crazy happy about and will work really hard for if I get but if I don’t receive the position, it’s something to look forward to next year. But everything is slowly coming to an end.
More about auditions at other locations, I heard that Indiana State University’s Drum Major auditions were put on hold due to illness of a main judge. Those ISU Drum Major auditionees, give my best regards to this person for me. I also root you all on. Best of luck and have fun!
Sometimes I have to keep telling myself that life is too short to not go after the things that you want. Yeah, I may or may not get the Drum Major position here at Towson, but the part that says “what are you thinking Trevor? You’re a transfer, they don’t care about you!” has been thrown away. After being accepted into the music department here in Dr. Levin’s studio… all things are possible.
As said by Chris Gardner “You got a dream... You gotta protect it. People can't do somethin' themselves, they wanna tell you you can't do it. If you want somethin', go get it. Period.”
