Leblanc Cadenza... FINALLY!

Hey there everyone. I hope you’ve enjoyed your week. This week couldn’t go by any slower though. So, with my extra $1,700 that I’m getting back from my loan, I’m going to finally purchase my own, brand new, professional Clarinet. This Friday or Saturday I will be purchasing the Leblanc Bb Cadenza. For some of you non-instrumentalists, this means absolutely nothing to you but to me, this is a BIG deal. For one, I have never owned my own Clarinet. When I first started on Clarinet, my mom was doing the whole ‘rent to own’ process through Paige’s Music Company out of Indiana. Right as I switched over to Bass Clarinet half way through my 6th grade year of middle school, my mom and I decided that I wouldn’t be needing the Bb Clarinet from that point on. Well, several years later, my mother buys me a brand new Bass Clarinet for my birthday my freshman year in high school. I cried and sobbed and all that jazz. Another several years down the road, after my chops are completely comfy with the Bass, I am asked to wing it and audition for Indiana State’s Music Department. I FLIPPED. I hadn’t touched a Clarinet in over 6 years. I had to quickly relearn proper embouchure (mouth placing) and even just the simple grasp of the clarinet. I got into the department though, luckily. After a year and a half as a music education student at Indiana State, I’m now here at Towson. I’m just having to sick my feet in the sand and get used to everything. I’m just oober excited that I’m finally purchasing my own Clarinet! I hope you have had a wonderful week so far.

Birthday gift!!!

The birthday came and went .I got everything I wanted: 3 feet of snow, a GIANT snowman, family time and (what everyone loves) some money. Since there was so much snow, I woke up on my birthday, got ready for the day and went shovel at least 5 times my own body weight of snow. Oh how much fun I had that day. After a couple days of shoveling, school was cancelled ALL week. What did we do? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! So much fun, right? Well, we went to see Avatar in 3D again but this time we HAD to see it in IMAX! Oh so amazing. If you get a chance, go see it. Better yet, see it in IMAX.

After snowmageddon, we started classes back up and got back to work. I’m so happy that everything’s under way again because I was EXTREMELY bored. One thing that came in today was something really special that TJ got me for my birthday. Although my birthday was almost 2 weeks ago, TJ’s surprise made the tardiness AMAZING. TJ bought me my second set of letters for my birthday! =) Take a look.

I was so excited when I got them. I can’t wait to wear it.

I hope everyone has had an awesome week so far.

Olympics + Valentine's Day

I’m so excited for the next week of Olympics. I never actually sit and watch the Olympics whether that be the Summer or Winter Games. This is something really interesting and exciting for me. Plus, I’m a year older, a year more mature and a year more understanding. It takes a lot to do the things that those athletes do. The sheer guts to go out, put your heart and soul on the line and to some extent, risk their life to do what they love and enjoy doing. I respect them very much. I also am thrilled that USA has 4 medals (as of Saturday night) and hopefully they’ll have plenty more to come. This is only the start and I can’t wait for more.

It’s also kissy kissy day. TJ and I are heading to the Inner Harbor for dinner and relaxation. I can’t wait to get to the Inner Harbor, I’m sure it looks gorgeous there with the gloss of the snow everywhere. This year we will be celebrating our second Valentine’s Day together and I hope everyone else is enjoying Valentine’s Day with their lover, their friends that they love or their family. If they aren’t… that’s their fault. I hope you have a wonderful day and turn on the tube next time you’re bored and watch the talent that is being put into history books.

For everyone at Indiana State that is reading this: I miss you, I hope you are enjoying yourself and I hope to visit sometime soon.

Happy Valentine’s Day
&
Happy Chinese New Year

Differences & Recent Event

Things are different. From the location I’m at to the way a group of people acts. Everything where I am now is different. But who said change was a bad thing? I’m actually enjoying this change.

It has been over a week now that I have been moved into Tubman House here at Towson University and am actually really enjoying myself. My roommate, Jawad, is easy going and very simple to get along with. The friends that I have made through TJ have become closer friends. I have recently started to become just as active here as I was at Indiana State. Kappa Kappa Psi started up here this past Sunday and I feel like everything will go extremely well this semester. They keep telling me that I am being kind-of “thrown” into everything that is happening and I inform them that every group that you ever join or become an active member of, you will always have drama or head butting. So, in a sense, everything with all the groups that I’m in thus far, are actually going really well. There are two performing band ensembles that meet in the Spring semester and one, Symphonic Band, you need to audition to get into. I decided not to audition to get into the ensemble because I wanted to get my academics underway here at Towson and get a feel for the place. I didn’t want to rush into too much at one time. Starting Fall semester though, you can guarantee that I will be getting equally as involved as I was at ISU.

I know, some people still don’t know the outcome of my audition at the beginning of January. Most know but for those that don’t, I didn’t make it into the Music Department. Yes, I blew it. But… its all the experience. I am not ‘labeled’ currently as a Music Education major. Instead, I am a Pre-Music Education major. This semester I am still staying involved in music and am continuing everything but with much more ambition. The gusto that I thought I had at ISU has sky rocketed since finding out the results of the audition. I want to be an actual Music Major here more than anything now. TJ has told me “Maybe this is a blessing in disguise.” I honestly believe that though. It’s preparing me for what is to come and is also making me a more patient and persistent person.

I will make it into the department. I will. =)

Another good thing that is happening… I will be 20 years old on Saturday! Wahoo! I can’t wait. No, I don’t have anything special planned. Lots of people have been asking me, but no I don’t have anything planned. TJ and I will be heading back to his place which is about 20 minutes away from school to do our laundry on Saturday. While I’m finishing up the laundry, TJ will be heading off to his Grandfathers 90th Birthday celebration. Get this… he’s 90 and still walks 18 holes of golf AND reads the Wall Street Journal FRONT TO BACK! He’s amazing. But other than that, I felt like I haven’t blogged in awhile and had nothing better to do at the time so, there you go.

Thank you so much for reading. I do appreciate it. It’s nice to blog sometimes. It’s really relieving. Maybe you might want to start a blog. They’re free here on blogger. =P Okay, I’m done ‘advertising.’ I hope you have a wonderful day and I hope that your week continues to go well.

With pleasure,
Trevor
