No longer a family but biology

You know, I’d never think I would say this, but I think I’m fading away from my family, or vise versa. Recently, anytime I come home, there’s some form of drama that includes how they don’t enjoy my views. For those of you who commented on my status earlier today on Facebook, THANK YOU! Thank you VERY much! I truly appreciate it. For anyone who didn’t get to see the status, it read “its sad that I can't feel welcome around my own family. =(“ The main reason behind this is pretty much what I have already explained. I come home to people throughout my family talking about me behind my back about my sexual preference, how I have ‘changed.’ I’m just sick of it. For example: one day, I head out to my fathers place which is a farm off a dirt road in the country. After going to his place and visiting, I head back to my grandparents farm back closer to town. When I get there, my truck is completely full of dust from the dirt road. Nothing is on it though, written or imprinted. One of my cousins were at the farm when I got there, working on a tractor or something. After visiting my grandmother for an hour or so, I go back to my truck to leave to notice that my truck had something written in cursive on my back window “faggot.” Pretty polite, eh? There was only two people there at the time, my grandmother (who was with me the whole time, and my cousin outside. Hmmm, let’s think about this. Another instance is this past Thanksgiving. I come home to spend time with the family and I get nothing but “are you coming to church with us? You should" and silence. Most of the time was small talk like “hey, what's up, hope schools well, nice to see you again.” Not once did anyone truly ask how I was. Oh well. The gist of the status, I don’t know why I come back to Indiana anymore. I hope things improve. I always have to put on a happy face when I’m around. I shouldn’t have to. this is who I am. Thanks to everyone who’s talked to me and welcomed me. I appreciate it. Sorry for such a negative blog. I just miss having a FAMILY, not people who have to love me because of biology.

Thank you to TJ and the Sanders family as well as the Iota Delta chapter and the Lambda Lambda chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi for keeping me a family to hold onto. Thank you to all my friends in Towson and Indiana State University music department and anyone I come in contact with. =) Thank you

I waited in line 6 years ago at the local BMV in podunk Crawfordsville, Indiana to take both a written and driven exam to get my drivers license. Two years later, I flop myself down in Terre Haute, Indiana on the campus of Indiana State University and wait in another line to get another form of I.D. Another two years later, I stand in yet again, another line., at Towson University, and hopefully my last university unless I attend grad school. So, 6 years later I have accumulated these three glorious photos of myself. I just though I would share them with you. I shouldn’t have to describe them . Enjoy!

age difference

I put it up mainly because I always end up pulling out all three to show people when they ask to see the difference. I’ll be updating the license one in February when I turn TWENTY ONE! Whoop Whoop. That’s all. Merry Holidays!

The now

road-795004

Where are we today? Are you where you thought you would have been 3 to 5 years ago? I know I’m not. I’m somewhere completely different, new and wonderful. Even one year ago today, I was receiving my acceptance letter from Towson and couldn’t put it all together that I was really leaving home. It’s been nearly one year now that I’ve been living in Maryland. Wow! It’s been 5 semesters since I graduated. I have come such a long way. I am extremely grateful for everyone who has proved me with a home and a family to build from (TJ, his family, Kappa Kappa Psi & Music Department). I always think to myself when I look out my window in the morning or before bed, “ where would I be right now if I didn’t (insert past action here).” That’s all. I’ve just been thinking that throughout the day.

past-present-future

Are you where you thought you were going to be?

Look what I found!

Well, look what my mother found back home. She was sifting through files and cleaning things up the other day and sent me this. It’s a clipping of the newspaper in Crawfordsville, Indiana (where I grew up) from March 2007 when I was in High School Musical in High School. The whole article reads (if you wanna know):

”The movie ‘High School Musical’ has been a huge success. There is just something addictive about it. Maybe it’s the songs, the dancing, or the fact that teens can relate to the storyline. Whatever made it so appealing, made it an easy choice for this year’s musical performance at Crawfordsville High School. Jim Kochert directs a cast and crew of over 40 students. They have been rehearsing for weeks with energetic choreography and songs that will keep you singing long after leaving the performance. Assistant director and costume designer, Paula Kochert, has the hard job of finding and fitting all the cheerleading and basketball uniforms needed. Connie Meek also stepped in to assist with the vocalization and harmony of the songs. The cast consists of T.J. Hedrick (Troy Bolton) as the captain of the basketball team and all around good guy, Leah Myhre (Gabriella Montez) a shy, math wiz recently transferred to East High, Haley Harmon (Sharpay) and Trace Cotton (Ryan) are a brother-sister team that have dominated all lead parts in dramas at East High, Jenn Meyer (Taylor) the science club president and Zach Hall (Chad) the best friend and teammate of Troy…”

Then it keeps going on the second little sliver with more cast names. But isn't this just cool that mom sent me this? =)

Blasé Day!

It’s one of those blasé kind of days, where everything happens … again! Nothing new really pops up, classes are all the same and the people I see are doing the same things. Yeah, there might be a touch more drama or not but do I really like to get into those things? Not so much. I’m just the kind of person that is always on a natural high and LOVES being on it!

How was your day? Blasé? Fabulous?

What did you do different today?  Help me do something different everyday. =P

P.S. – FALL IS HERE!!!!! The leaves are beautiful. Here’s the view from my window right now…

Using Windows Live Writer…

So, I’m currently using something new to me called “Windows Live Writer”… obviously for Windows. It’s an upgrade apparently and I think I like it so far. From what I can see, so far is that it takes my blog settings and all that jazz and puts it into this program that I can just pull up a new page, that has the same template as the one on my blog, and just blog. I like it! Instead of having to sign in online and then look things up and have to clock on all this mumbo jumbo, this is so much easier. I think I’ll start blogging more now that I have easier access! =D You’ll definitely be hearing more from me!

P.S. – Dusk was BEAUTIFUL today! Here, look… DSC05086

Freakin' amazing weekend!!!

This weekend has got to be the topper of the semester for me (so far). Bright and early Saturday morning I got to working at/around the stadium working USSBA band competition, enjoying ever second around people! Getting in later on at about midnight, I fall dead asleep to be up very few hours later to start a fall wedding show in Towson at the Baltimore-North Sheraton. I cannot explain how amazing this event was! Here are some pictures from it:

It was so amazing. I’m still coming off a high from it. It was just so much fun setting everything up, running around talking to brides, making people smile and people making me smile! It was pretty much a giant mock wedding with 3 parts to a wedding (at least to room I was in), Ceremony side, dance floor then reception. I mainly worked the reception around with all the centerpieces done by Floral Impressions. It was such a great feeling throughout the day.

Afterward, I drove back to school to line up with all my closest friends and colleagues to perform at the Baltimore County Showcase of Bands. I just love my life!

A new home!

I’m just sitting in the Towson Center on campus waiting for warm-up time to come for a marching band competition performance and can’t tell you how happy I am to be where I am today. I have had so many different opportunities. Some things, you stumble a touch and maybe regain your balance and some other things you plug right along as though you’ve done it every day. Moving to Maryland has been a stumble for me. It’s a place where you really have to have all sorts of acquired tastes; literally, from the foods you eat everyday to the way you drive to how you’re day runs. It’s completely different and a total culture shock for me, or it was last January when I moved here. It’s true everywhere when it comes to differences, but I notice a giant difference here. People are faster paced and don’t tend to slow down and enjoy the small things in life (some people). For the most part, the driving completely blows me away and I’ve had to step it up a lot to compete sometimes just to get one lane over on the beltway. It’s kind of sad that everyone always has to be first at everything. On the good side the food is phenomenal. PERIOD! I didn’t know I would ever love crabs or lobster as much as I do today. One giant positive to moving here is joining the Towson University marching band.

I’ve had such a blast. The marching band, specifically the atmosphere and the people, has helped me to stop stumbling all over the place. I do have to thank TJ immensely for getting me over here. It was hard some days to think of leaving the place I called home but this has been wonderful! =D I still love Indiana State University and always will. Now that I’m at Towson, I’m pluggin forward and seeing how far I can go. =D I can’t wait to see what the next several years has in store. Sorry for not writing recently. I’ve been so busy with marching band here at Towson and up in Pennsylvania as well as classes. Thanks though for reading when I do write. It may be gibberish sometime to some people but I do appreciate it. =)

Thank you.

BAND CAMP: Day 2

Here we are on lunch break. This week has flown by. I remember moving in on Monday and having to figure out how the heck TJ and I were going to push both extra long twin beds together to make something close to a king bed, and fit within the room. We did it and dang does it look good. I’m just happy to be back at school and ready to get the ball rollin. Now for band.

For some reason, I thought 3 months ago when I signed up for marching band, that I would have this bitterness towards TUMB (Towson University Marching Band) because I transferred in from Indiana State University’s marching band, a place that became so close to me. That hasn’t been the case. I started the day yesterday with my brothers of Kappa Kappa Psi, fellow section leaders and administration… with a smile on. Today, has been amazing and I thank everyone in TUMB. From the 1st years that started yesterday to the returning students that joined us last night. I am starting to finally feel like I’m at home. Thank you!

Since I haven’t updated the blog in several months, I figured I’d give you an update on how things are going.

Hope to write again soon. =D

Another one!

Here it is again. Another 4th of July. What to do, what to do? Today has been mainly filled with working but it’s been fun. I mainly worked at Pier Five Hotel at the Inner Harbor, which was gorgeous. I set up a Chuppa (Jewish wedding tradition) with all sorts of garland, swags and bamboo everywhere. It was beautiful. Here is a picture of it after all said and done.
Not only was the wedding going to be gorgeous but the place where they had it all taking place was even more pretty. Downtown at the Inner Harbor is such a beautiful place. Everyone from Baltimore is always says to me “ewww, why do you like Baltimore so much?” Do you know where I come from? Hello! Corn fields, combines, tractors, semis and marching band. I have always wanted to work/live in the city, and here I am. Why is Baltimore such a bad place? The only that I see wrong with it are: the GOD awful drivers, it being #1 in the nation for homicide and murder and the fact that no one ever seems to know what they’re doing. But other than that, Baltimore really is a beautiful place and I cannot express my most sincere thanks to TJ for bringing me to Baltimore. I love the Sanders family, the friends that I have made and my surroundings.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful 4th of July. God Bless and be safe. Oh… and, give you’re family a giant hug! =)

New job/Fun summer

Here we are, out of school and along another summer path. Every summer I have done something 98% different than what I did the past summer. The other 2% is working at the same place for two weeks. I recently resigned from the Falls Road Doggie Day care, not because of the job itself but because of some of the employees. Beyond that, I received my last check this past Friday and have moved on to bigger and better. After talking it over a couple weeks ago on the trunk of my car and the hood of Jessica Ross’s car, TJ, Caroline, Jess and I came to the conclusion that it would be a good idea to work for Caroline’s neighbor who owns a flower shop. I called and set up an interview and was asked to come back and work with them. I cannot tell you how amazing this job has been. Unfortunately, I can only be there for 7 to 8 more weeks. The gist of the job is to be creative with wedding/funeral/party arrangements, clean, organize, set-up/tear-down weddings and enjoy all forms of flowers and greenery. Apparently, this past weekend was an extremely busy weekend at the shop, I worked a full 11 hour shift yesterday and another 8 hour shift today setting up and tearing down weddings. I cannot explain how beautiful this job is. Oh, and the places I get to go and the things I have been able to see in just two days. If anyone from Baltimore is reading this, you might have heard of the Engineers Club in Mt.Vernon or possibly have been in the St. Ignatius Rectory. These are two very beautiful places. I also went to the Swan Harbor Farm close to Havre De Grace for a nautical wedding. We also had a Jewish wedding at 1840s Ballroom in downtown Baltimore today. It was an experience. Here are pictures from all three weddings.

Thanks for reading my blurbs by the way. I’ll have more wedding shots later on throughout the summer. I hope everyones vacations are going well. Enjoy every day as if it’s your last. =)

INDIANA... Thank you!

Some of my best experiences were back in Indiana. Due to you, I have some of the best memories to cherish. From running around on a hazy hot field finding sets for marching band, exploring the outdoors, hunting, fishing, swimming, hiking to just simply being able to sit back and relax with old and new friends is something that will never leave me. What fun Indiana brought me during the 19 years I lived there. Learning my trade, meeting new people everywhere I go and enjoying the time doing the things I love to do kept me going. Everyone that you come in contact with has a special place in your heart. Whether you like it or not, they do. I wish I could list off all the people who have made an astounding difference in me but you would be reading all night. I will list several places though.

Crawfordsville High School; you became home to me whenever I needed one. I found what I was meant to do during my time spent there. High school, not just in my case, was the biggest place of judgment. With everyone judging everything from the tiniest thing you wear to the way you walk down the hall to the way you hold your pencil in class, I got through it. Being pulled into the band directors office one day after a week’s wait for Drum Major results, I was asked if I would accept the responsibility of Drum Major. I accepted and pushed myself harder than I ever have before. For this position, I thank everyone during my high school band experience for that opportunity. Also, with the help of fellow students and staff at Crawfordsville High School, I moved on to bigger and better. Indiana State University.

Indiana State University; not only have you brought great great pride, but you have taught me some of the most invaluable life lessons. From move-in day freshman year with the assistance of marching band students to the welcoming of Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Service Fraternity and even to Dr. Doug Keiser sitting the last five participants of the Drum Major auditions and speaking my name in the list of three selected. The life lessons I have learned from Indiana State University will go far and live long. I will pass them down for generations not only in my family but in others I have an impact on thanks to my educators, fellow students and those who I came in contact with.

Thank you everyone in Indiana that I knew and even those who I didn’t personally know. You have made a significant impact on my life and have helped me get to where I am now. Thank you. I miss you very much. I will be back very soon to see you.

“I’m glad I never lived next to the water, so I could get used to the beach. I’m glad I never grew up on a mountain, to figure out how high the world could reach. I love the miles between me and the city, where I quietly imagine every street… I wonder how it feels to be famous, but wonder is as far as I will go, cause I’d probably lose myself in all the pictures, and end up being someone I don’t know.”

“INDIANA,” John McLaughlin

Thank you Indiana!

DONE! Finally

Now that everything is finally done, I get to start the summer, officially. What am I doing for the summer? The same thing you are. WORKING! Since I already have the job at the Doggie DayCare, I’m going to continue working there as well as work with Susquehannock High School marching band. So, to answer the question that everyone has been asking me recently… “Are you coming/going back to Indiana for the summer?” I will be in Indiana the last full week of July and the first full week of August for Crawfordsville High School’s band camp. But that’s about all that I have for ya. Nothing too crazy has happened to talk about other than the fact that I had my last final this morning. Whoopdi Do. I hope you have a wonderful summer. =)

Work vs. Lead!

It is said, you have to know what it’s like to work as a team before you’re able to lead a team. The results are in! As most know, I recently tried out for Drum Major here at Towson University. After it seemed like a month passed by from the beginning of auditions until today, the audition process has kept me on edge every step of the way. This process has been very positive and rewarding though with all the new challenges that I had to face during the audition processes. For the long awaited results… here you go:

I received this list while in Barnes & Noble bookstore with TJ shopping for summer books to read. My heart was racing when I checked my phone after it vibrated. It read “SMAC Results … FINALLY!” So… to keep myself from falling to the floor, I went ahead and sat down. *lol* I scrolled down and read the results. Flabbergasted, I was both disappointed and extremely excited. The good thing about not getting Drum Major this season is that now I get to be a part of the Towson Marching Band and march for a season. I completely understand though why I didn’t get the position. I’m very happy that I got a SMAC position though. If you don’t know what SMAC stands for, scroll up and read it before the results list. Stated on a sheet handed to me by the director of the marching band, it describes my position as one of two section leaders in SMAC. "As a SMAC member, you will either be a music section leader, or a drill section leader. It is your responsibility to oversee the marching and musical style and technique in your section while thinking about how your section fits into the band as a whole. You will also server as the main point of communication whiin your section and between your section and staff. " There is a better description of what my role will be. Like I said before, this season will be extremely fun and I can’t wait. I hope everyone is having a good week so far.
